Stroger Hospital Cop Dies After Beating

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Stroger Hospital police officer has died after he was found badly beaten on the South Side.

Dwayne Parks, 45, was found "badly beaten" in a gangway at 9428 S. Langley Av. Tuesday afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Parks was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:09 p.m. Tuesday.

Parks worked for 19 years as a police officer at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to hospital spokesman Lucio Guerrero. He was initially hired and deputized by the Cook County Sheriff's office, but later hired by Stroger Hospital.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
