Charity Gives Schoolkids Early Christmas
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- More than 800 hundred students at Richard J. Daley Academy on the city's South Side received a visit from Santa today.
The students received everything from gift cards to basketballs and socks, thanks to donations through a local Letters to Santa initiative.

The letters to Santa campaign was coordinated by Direct Effect Charities--a Chicago-based organization that works with Chicago Public Schools. The founder tells Newsradio 780 that several Chicago companies, including a number of law firms, then purchase the items requested--not to exceed $25.00 each.
This year, Direct Effect Charities received 10,000 letters. At least requests from 800 letters still have not been fulfilled. You can help by going to the Direct Effect Charities website.
