Naperville Police Nab Man Suspected Of Stealing Catalytic Converters

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) - A west suburban man was arrested after he was caught red-handed stealing a catalytic converter from an SUV.

Samuel J. Collier, 28, was arrested by the Naperville Police Major Crimes Unit at 9:32 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of 475 Fairway Dr. after he was seen by surveillance units removing a catalytic converter from a 1999 Toyota 4Runner, according to a release from police.

As a result of the arrest, more than 10 similar thefts have been cleared in Naperville and Warrenville, the release said.

Collier, of the 700 block of Inland Circle, was charged with theft of property exceeding $300, which is a felony.

He is being held at the DuPage County Jail, awaiting a bond hearing later Thursday.
