Man Caught Stealing Copper Piping From Home
BRIDGEVIEW (CBS) -- A Shorewood man has been charged with burglarizing a southwest suburban home after police caught him hiding in a garage just after a large amount of copper piping was stripped from the home.
Joshua Davis-Nguyen, 25, of the 22300 block of South River Road is charged with one count of burglary in the Thursday incident, a release from the Cook County Sheriff's office said. Another man involved in the theft is still at large.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. as sheriff's police patrol officers responded to a 911 call of a burglary in progress in the 1300 block of Ambrose Drive in Palos Township, the release said. When officers arrived, they found a car parked in the closed garage of the home, which is under construction.
Police found Davis-Nguyen hiding inside the car and placed him under arrest. Another man fled on foot.
When officers searched the home, they found a substantial amount of copper piping had been stripped from the inside of the home, primarily the attic and basement, and placed in the offender's car, the release said.
Davis-Nguyen and his partner forced their way into the home through a side door, the release said.
The victim, a construction company located in Countryside, told police the missing pipe and damage to the home was worth approximately $4,000.
Davis-Nguyen's bond was set at $5,000 on Friday. He'll appear for a preliminary hearing in Bridgeview on Dec. 30.
Police are seeking information about the second offender, who may be in Joliet.
