Police: 'Suspicious' Man Chases Young Girl

MAINE TOWNSHIP, Ill. (STMW) - Cook County Sheriff's police were contacted after a 10-year-old Maine Township girl reported that a man appeared to be following her as she walked Dec. 15 from her apartment to her school bus stop.

Sheriff's Police spokeswoman Liane Jackson said the girl about 8 a.m. left her residence on the 10000 block of Linda Lane in unincorporated Maine Township when she encountered a man smoking a cigarette outside the building. As the girl walked through the parking lot to her bus stop she reported that the man began walking in her direction. Scared, the girl broke into a run and the man began running, as well, Jackson said.

The girl ran to a friend's residence where police were contacted. A police search of the area did not locate the suspect.

Jackson said the man did not say anything to the girl, but he did raise his arms toward her, though he was not close enough to make physical contact with her.

Several high school and elementary school students have reported incidents involving suspicious people in unincorporated Maine Township, Park Ridge and
Niles since October. Police do not believe the incidents are connected.
