SIUC Wants To Recruit More Female Students

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WBBM) - Southern Illinois University is looking for a few good women.

Officials at SIU in Carbondale say there is a gender disparity, with consistently more male than female students on campus.

Chancellor Rita Cheng says that's counter to what's happening at most universities these days. The Census Bureau says women 18 to 24 have been surpassing men in higher education since the late '80s.

Vice Chancellor John Nicklow says they'll try to close the gap at SIU by, among other things, targeting all-girl high schools.
