Woman, 75, Shot In South Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 75-year-old woman was shot in the leg Monday night while she stood outside in the South Chicago neighborhood.

About 9:15 p.m. Monday, a suspect on a bike fired shots in the 8000 block of South Merrill Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

The woman was shot in the leg while outside and taken in stable condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to Mirabelli.

Authorities think the shooter may have been aiming for a teen boy who was visiting the woman to buy candy that she sells from her residence, police said.

The suspect was described as wearing a dark hoodie, Mirabelli said. No one was in custody Tuesday morning.
