Homeowner Injured By Christmas Tree Fire

LAKE BLUFF, Ill. (STMW) -- A north suburban homeowner was injured Monday after he discovered his Christmas tree on fire and tried to drag it out of the house.

The fire started shortly after 8 a.m. at 117 Woodland Road, owned by Dan Horvat. He also owns Horvat Design Group LTD, which specializes in landscape design and is based in Lake Bluff.

Lake Bluff Deputy Chief David Belmonte said Horvat suffered minor burns on his hand and face, but no one else was injured. The fire did extensive damage to the house and furnishings.

The fire burned out some window frames and burned through the roof in some areas.

Lake Bluff crews were assisted by Lake Forest, Knollwood, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Highwood and Mundelein fire departments.

The family dog, Crash, was comforted outside the house by Horvat's 17-year-old son, Colt.
