Radioactive Leak At O'Hare Is False Alarm

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A reported hazardous materials situation Wednesday morning at a building at O'Hare International Airport turned out to be a false alarm.
Crews were called to 10000 W. O'Hare -- the formal street address for the airport -- about 7 a.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Rich Rosado said.
A container at that location was originally reported to be leaking something "radioactive," fire officials said.
Investigators found a container had been crushed in the cargo area and a HazMat team determined the substance coming from it was not hazardous or dangerous, Rosado said. The material was not radioactive, he said.
The hazardous materials situation response was not in a terminal or in the airport itself, according to Rosado.
City Department of Aviation spokeswoman Karen Pride confirmed Fire Department crews are responding to a cargo building at O'Hare but had no further details as of 7:45 a.m.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said no one has been injured.
