Vigil Held For Mother Gunned Down In Her Car

Mother Of 3 Gunned Down On South Side - Click Here

CHICAGO (CBS) - Chicago Police have made no arrests in the murder of a South Side mother and that is prompting those who loved and knew her, to call for help from neighbors.

CBS 2's Mike Parker attended a candlelight vigil Wednesday night held near the intersection of 80th Street and Princeton Avenue, where the mother of three was gunned down and taken from her family and friends.

A local minister at the vigil asked, "Haven't our streets ran red enough with the blood of the innocent?"

The victim was 40-year-old Erika Greene, a long time employee of the Drake Hotel. JoAnn Garth is the Godmother of Greene and spoke at the vigil, "This is hard, when they say that you hurt inside, you cannot explain it."

On Saturday night, Greene pulled away from a parking spot in front of her apartment when suddenly gunfire erupted. She was hit by six shots, then crashed her vehicle down the street. She died at the scene.

Greene's uncle Marvin Garth thinks, "The neighbors know something. You can't be out here at 7:10 p.m. at night and not hear or see something. Are they afraid to come forward? I don't know."

Greene's brother Malik Greene said, "All my sister did was go to work and come home. She's working class. She worked hard and didn't deserve this."

Police retrieved surveillance video from the neighborhood over the weekend and are not commenting on what it might have revealed.

Investigators reportedly believe the woman was targeted and this shooting was not a mistake.
