Robbers Ride Elevators To Burglarize Apartments

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three men allegedly rode elevators in a South Side apartment, then followed and robbed residents at gunpoint last weekend in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

The armed robbery and home invasion happened Saturday at 9:40 p.m. in an apartment building in the 500 block of East 32nd Street, according to a community alert from Wentworth Area detectives.

Three offenders entered the building and rode the elevator with the victims, then forced their way into apartments and robbed them at gunpoint, the alert said.

The offenders were black men between 18 and 25, between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8, and 140-160 pounds. They were wearing dark clothing and were armed with a dark semi-automatic handgun, the alert said.

Police are warning residents of the area to be suspicious of people who may be loitering and are encouraging people to walk in groups and in well-lit areas.

Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 747-8382.
