DePaul Goes To Test-Optional Admissions

CHICAGO (WBBM) - The standard practice of submitting an SAT or ACT score to colleges and university's to gain acceptance is being challenged by one school in Chicago.

DePaul University is going test optional at least for the next 4 years. That means applicants will, as usual, submit high school transcripts but now have a choice of either submitting their SAT or ACT scores, or answering several open-ended essay questions.

Officials from the Lincoln Park based university believe a student's success is not simply based on test scores. In fact the vice president for enrollment policy and planning said research has shown that standarized tests could skew admission towards students who test well and hurt those who do not.

The president of DePaul said the decision to change the policy is based on years of research.
