Teen Seriously Injured In Car Wash Blast
CHICAGO (STMW) - A 19-year-old man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in an explosion at a North Side Edgewater neighborhood car wash.
A Level I HazMat response was called at a car wash at 5961 N. Ridge Ave. about 4:15 p.m. following "a small chemical explosion," according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis.
According to unconfirmed reports, a 55-gallon drum of unknown material exploded.
The injured man was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in serious to critical condition, Curtis said.
The scene was secured about 5:15 p.m., he said.
