The original collective bargaining agreement was set to expire at midnight (ET) Thursday night.

The two sides have been in federally mediated negotiations for over a week in hopes of reaching a new labor agreement. Without a new CBA the NFL could lockout the players' union. The union could also decertify and take their labor fight to court and sue the NFL for anti-trust law violations.

Major sticking points in the negotiations remain to be the addition of two extra regular season games, being pushed for by the NFL, and the revenue split. Currently, the players union receives roughly 60% of the estimated $9 billion league revenue, the owners are pushing for closer to a 50-50 split.

The players' union is still maintaining a no comment policy, per a tweet by NFLPA  Assistant Executive Director of External Affairs George Atallah. The NFLPA is advising their players to consult their team reps for further updates.
