Wolves Hang On, Beat Manitoba

The Chicago Wolves built a 3-0 lead and held on to collect an 3-2 victory over the Manitoba Moose at the Allstate Arena Sunday night.

Forwards Darren Haydar, Tim Miller and Jason Krog provided the offense for Chicago (33-25-3-5), while goaltender Edward Pasquale (6-6-0) made 29 saves in his first appearance since Jan. 29.

"I thought we played well tonight. Everybody worked hard," said Wolves Assistant Coach Ron Wilson.  "We're fighting for our playoff lives right now so every game is like a playoff game and this win is huge."

Haydar gave the Wolves a 1-0 lead, 11:18 into the first period.  Working on the power play, Krog fed the puck from the right corner out to Haydar at the top of the crease for a quick tap past Moose netminder Eddie Lack.

Miller made the Wolves lead 2-0, 7:06 into the second period.  Defenseman Jamie Sifers fired a shot on goal and Miller was there to step into the rebound and rip a shot through traffic and into the back of the net.

Krog gave the Wolves a 3-0 cushion at 17:28 of the second period.  Center Andre Deveaux worked the puck past Manitoba's defense at the blueline and chipped the puck to Mike Davies, who knocked it over to Krog, who sent it zinging past Lack.

Lack (22-16-3) turned aside 40 shots for Manitoba.

Manitoba (34-23-1-5) got on the board, 3-1, with a shorthanded goal when center Garth Murray stole the puck at the blueline and broke down the ice alone before flipping a shot past Pasquale with 48 seconds remaining in the second period.

The Moose pulled within one, 3-2, 4:45 in to the third period. Defenseman Yann Sauve controlled the puck alone in the left face-off circle and sent a shot zipping past a crowd of players in front of the net and past Pasquale.

The Wolves will host the Peoria Rivermen at the Allstate Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
