New Trier spokeswoman Nicole Dizon said the dismissal is effective immediately.

Officials would not disclose any information regarding the sex, age or status of the student involved. They also declined to reveal whether the incident involved took place on or off campus.

On Tuesday, the district confirmed that Rossmann had been suspended last week for what the district described as "misconduct" while officials conducted an investigation.

"On the day that these allegations were reported to school officials, New Trier removed Ms. Rossmann from her teaching duties pending the outcome of an investigation; the proper authorities were notified as well, and the investigation is ongoing," a recent note to parents stated. "At this time, providing further details would jeopardize the investigation. We take this matter very seriously, and we are committed to providing a safe environment for all of our students."

Rossmann worked at New Trier since 2003 - at the Winnetka campus, which includes grades 10-12.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office said no criminal charges have been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Administrators and social workers met with students in Rossmann's classes on Tuesday and "will be available for any students who may need support on an ongoing basis," district Supt. Linda Yonke said.
