EVANSTON (CBS) -- A Chicago man died late Wednesday night after a head-on crash with another vehicle in north suburban Evanston.

Two cars hit each other head-on around 10 p.m. near Elgin Road and Ewing Avenue in Evanston, along the Evanston-Skokie border, according to Fire Chief Greg Klaiber.

The driver of one of the vehicles – identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Allswell Osuji, 39, of 1026 W. Montrose Ave. – had to be extricated through the top of his vehicle, Klaiber said.

Osuji was pronounced dead at 11:12 p.m. Wednesday at North Shore University Health System in Evanston, according to the medical examiner's office.

The driver of the other vehicle was also transported to North Shore University Health System in "stable" condition, Klaiber said.
