Nanny Cam Busts Abusive Babysitter

CHICAGO (STMW) - A babysitter caught by a "Nanny Cam" allegedly assaulting a 15-month-old girl last month pleaded not guilty to a battery charge on Wednesday.

Andrea Aguilar, 31, of W. Berwyn Ave., was charged in February after suspicious parents set up the camera to record her daily routine.

On Feb. 20, they reviewed video from Feb. 18 which showed Aguilar violently choking and shaking a toddler as she sat in her high chair, a police report said.

The child suffered bruises to the middle of her back during the incident and her parents took her to Children's Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

After being advised of her rights, Aguilar allegedly admitted that she physically abused the child, according to the report.

Aguilar pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated battery to a child on Wednesday and a status hearing was set for May 3, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said.

She was ordered held on $25,000 bond on Feb. 24.

Aguilar had been employed by the parents of the victim as the child's caregiver since March 2010, but when the child's behavior became increasingly withdrawn and the parents noticed several bruises, they became suspicious, police said.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
