Man, 19, Killed In Apparent Gang-Related Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man was killed in an apparent gang-related shooting Friday night on the Southwest Side.

The man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 19-year-old Luis Cordova -- was shot in the head and shoulder about 10:05 p.m. Friday in the 2600 block of West 47th Street, police said.

Prior to the shooting, a man exited a dark sport-utility vehicle, approached the deceased's vehicle in the alley and an argument ensued, police said. The man from the SUV then pulled a handgun and shot the man.

Friends initially took the wounded man to Mount Sinai Hospital. Cordova, of 2200 W. 21st Place, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:12 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

The gunman fled after the shooting and is not in custody early Saturday.

An autopsy is scheduled for later Saturday.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
