UPDATED 04/21/11 5:00 p.m.

ROUND LAKE PARK, Ill. (CBS/WBBM) --Police in Round Lake Park have a mystery on their hands: What happened to Melissa Ann Best?

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Mike Krauser reports, Best is a 34-year-old stay-at-home mom and student at the College of Lake County in Grayslake. She is married with two kids.

Police say she dropped one of her teenagers off at a friend's home in the Rosewood Apartments around 1 p.m. this past Friday, and has not been seen since.

Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko says Best's husband, Clinton, reported her missing.

Filenko says it is very unlike Best to disappear.

"She was a homebody. She lived a relatively non-social lifestyle," he said. "So we're just interested in reaching out to anybody that might have some information regarding seeing her or having social contact or any contact with her."

Filenko says the husband is not a suspect.

"You try to put it off, out of your head for a little bit to try to help you deal with it," Clinton Best told CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez. "When I turned on the radio today it was pretty crushing. It's like reality hitting you."

He helped distribute these flyers around town, with pictures of  Melissa and her missing minivan.

Neighbors are nervous.

"To know that our neighbor is just gone, it's scary," Heather Rosin said.

Best was driving a green 1993 Pontiac Transport minivan with gray trim with a license plate number of A 770-405.

Best was last seen in wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with "Chicago" on the front and blue jeans. She is 5 feet 4 inches tall with brown-blond hair and hazel eyes.

Police in Round Lake Park would like to hear from anyone who has seen Best or her car. They ask that you contact them at (847) 546-7275.
