CHICAGO (CBS) — An off-duty Chicago Police officer shot and wounded a suspect after an armed robbery on the city’s West Side Wednesday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., the officer saw an armed robbery taking place in the 1800 block of South Komensky Avenue, according to News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

The officer shot and wounded the suspect in a backyard at that location, Sullivan said.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, Sullivan said.
