Dominican University Student Accused Of Assaulting Schoolmate

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- A Dominican University student has been charged with the sexual assault a schoolmate in her dorm last week.

On Wednesday of last week, a student at Dominican University in River Forest reported that she had been sexually assaulted by another student, Xavier Patterson, 24, of Chicago.

The student said she had been studying in her dorm room just before the assault, according to River Forest police.

Patterson and the victim were acquaintances, police said.

Following an investigation that included interviews with the victim and several witnesses, Patterson surrendered to River Forest police on Thursday of last week. The Cook County State's Attorney's has now charged him with sexual assault, police said.

More charges could come at a later date, police said.

Patterson's bond was set at $10,000 Saturday at the Maybrook Courthouse in Maywood. He is set to return for a preliminary hearing at the courthouse on Thursday of this week, police said.
