Person Killed After Van Hits Viaduct On South Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A person was killed when a van slammed into a viaduct on the South Side late Sunday.

The crash happened at 11:43 p.m. Sunday in the 7500 block of South South Chicago Avenue, police said.

A male, whose age was not immediately known, was found unresponsive after his vehicle crashed into a viaduct at that location, police said.

The male was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which was unable to make an identification Monday afternoon.

An autopsy on Monday found the person died of multiple injuries from a van striking a fixed object and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
