Paul McCartney To Play Wrigley Field On July 31

UPDATED 06/14/11 5:39 a.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) – Cubs home Wrigley Field will probably be a much happier place on July 31, when Sir Paul McCartney performs a rock concert within the Friendly Confines.

The ex-Beatle announced the date of the previously rumored concert on his official website. Tickets go on sale June 20 at tickets.com.

Also announced were McCartney shows July 24 at Comerica Park in Detroit and Aug. 4 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

McCartney last played Chicago in 2005.

But the last time McCartney played in a Chicago baseball park, he had John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr with him. The Beatles played at old Comiskey Park in 1965.

At a City Council meeting last week, Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) introduced an ordinance at the request of the Cubs to authorize the date for the concert, even though it hadn't been announced at that point.

Attendance for Cubs games has lagged this season as the North Side team (25-39) has struggled.
