NU's Fitzgerald Named To USA Football's Tackle Advisory Committee

Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald has been selected for USA Football's Tackle Advisory Committee. The committee will work with youth coaches to teach tackling fundamentals and strengthen player safety on a national level.

Other members of the committee include former NFL running back and current youth football coach Merril Hoge, Miami Christopher Columbus High School head coach Chris Merritt, former NFL head coach Jim Mora and Penn State University Sport Psychologist David Yukelson, Ph.D.

"We're proud to unite these experts in football and sports psychology to help youth coaches best teach the fundamentals of tackling through our coaching courses, events and other resources," USA Football Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck said. "Better coaches develop fundamentally-sound players who perform better on the field and enjoy a safer and fun football experience."

The five-member committee has already assisted in the development of a tackle progression model - a step-by-step process for youth coaches to teach tackling fundamentals in proper order.
