Divers Recover Body Of Missing Man In Antioch Lake
ANTIOCH TOWNSHIP, Ill. (STMW) -- The body of a 25-year-old Elgin man was pulled from a lake in north suburban Antioch Township Saturday night, four hours after going under in the 25-foot deep water.
Emergency crews responded about 6:10 p.m. to Lake Marie near Illinois Routes 59 and 173 after a man was reported missing in the water, Lake County Sheriff's police Lt. John Crilly said.
The man was boating with family members when he jumped into the water shortly after 6 p.m., Lake County Sheriff's police spokesman Chris Thompson said.
He began to struggle, and his family threw him a flotation device, but he couldn't reach it and went under, Thompson said.
Emergency crews -- including the Lake County Sheriff's Marine Unit and the Antioch and Cary fire departments -- searched for four hours before locating the man's body shortly after 10 p.m., Thompson said.
The man's identity was not immediately available Sunday afternoon.
