Driver Hits 2 IDOT Trucks On I-290

ADDISON, Ill. (CBS) -- A man was injured after slamming into two IDOT trucks on Interstate 290 near Addison Monday morning.

The crash happened around 10:47 a.m., on I-290 just west of Route 81, Illinois State Police Elgin District Trooper Maria Navarro said.

A 33-year-old Naperville man was headed west on the expressway in a green Dodge Caravan when he attempted to pass on the right shoulder, Navarro said. The Dodge struck an Illinois Department of Transportation arrow truck, spun off that truck and into an IDOT vacuum truck, which was parked in front of the sign truck, Navarro said.

The driver of the Caravan was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with serious injuries, Navarro said.

The driver of the arrow truck was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the other truck was treated at the scene, Navarro said.

The crash shut down the westbound lanes of I-290 for about 45 minutes, Navarro said.
