Crash Victim Arrested For Stabbing Wife

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) -- A Bolingbrook man who was injured in a car crash last night has been arrested for stabbing his wife earlier this month.

Fred T. Spangenberg was arrested around 8 p.m. Monday, immediately after he was released from Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, according to Bolingbrook police Lt. Mike Rompa. He was charged with attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery.

Around 6:40 a.m. June 7, Spangenberg's wife called 911 to report the couple had been arguing at their residence in the 100 block of Fairwood.

"The victim reported her husband, Fred Spangenberg, had stabbed her in the back and she had lost a lot of blood. She reported that he had left in his minivan," Rompa said.

Police broadcast a description of the vehicle to other agencies and learned Spangenberg had rolled the minivan on southbound Interstate 55 near Route 30.

His wife was treated at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital for her injuries and investigators obtained the warrant for his arrest two days later.
