According to police, Poole became enraged after his friend burned a chicken dinner. Poole allegedly grabbed a kitchen fillet knife and slashed the 20-year-old man's face in three places.

The victim suffered one cut below one of his eyes and another above the lip. Naperville police Sgt. Nick Liberio said one of the slashes proved to be "a deep cut."

The incident reportedly occurred in Poole's apartment on Naperville's northwest side.

A friend had taken the victim to Edward Hospital in Naperville before police arrived at the scene, the news release stated. The victim underwent treatment in the emergency room for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Poole "was about to exit the building" as police arrived, "and he didn't comply with orders to get on the ground," Liberio said. Police, after subduing Poole, found the knife and two handguns in his possession, Liberio said.

Court records indicated Naperville police arrested Poole in June 2010 on a misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, after he was found carrying an air rifle. That case was dismissed in January, records showed.
