Abbatacola: All Eyes On Wells

By Matt Abbatacola-

CHICAGO (CBS) The Cubs have an off day Thursday before they welcome in the last place Houston Astros for a weekend series. They also have an off day on Monday before they head to Milwaukee for a series beginning on Tuesday.

With two days off in the next five days and six starting pitchers, (Garza, Zambrano, Dempster, Wells, Lopez, and Ortiz) Mike Quade needed to set his rotation for the weekend series. He will use Zambrano on Friday, Wells on Saturday, and Garza on Sunday.

Rodrigo Lopez will move to the bullpen.

"Lopez has pitched really well, said Quade. "It's a commitment from me to Wellsy right now to say look you've been a big part of this thing and keep working, but progress is important."

When asked if Wells was pitching for his spot in the rotation, Quade said: "Well, I don't know about that. He needs to make progress. I'm hoping for as good an outing as we've seen from him. We'll see how he does."

It sounds to me like Wells is pitching for his spot in the rotation.
