Four Dead, Six Wounded By Gunfire In Citywide Violence

CHICAGO (STMW) - Four people were killed and at least six others were wounded by gunfire during an especially bloody nine hours throughout the city Saturday night and early Sunday.

The shootings started about 6:20 p.m. Saturday when a 53-year-old woman -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Robin Winston -- was shot on the street in the 5800 block of West Thomas Street, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said. The shooting happened outside the woman's home, authorities said.

Winston, of the 1100 block of North Menard Ave., died about a half hour later at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, the medical examiner's office said.

About 8:15 p.m., a man identified by the medical examiner's office as 32-year-old Floyd Peterson was shot in the chest in the 400 block of East 74th Street, Gaines said. He was pronounced dead at 12:31 a.m. Sunday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

About 10:45 p.m. Saturday, 22-year-old Sean Avery was shot while standing in a yard near his home in the 8200 block of South East End Avenue, authorities said. Police said a 41-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting.

About 3:20 a.m. Sunday, police found a man -- identified by the medical examiner's office as 28-year-old Beto Rodriguez, of the 4900 block of South Wolcott Ave. -- shot in the head on his block, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

At least five other people were wounded, but not killed, in shootings on the South and West sides.

About 8 p.m. Saturday, a man in his 30s was shot in the 3700 block of West Grand Avenue and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "stable" condition, police said.

About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the legs in the 1300 block of North Mayfield Avenue, police said. He was hospitalized in good condition.

About the same time, a 27-year-old man was shot in the head in the 11100 block of South Homewood Avenue, police said. He was listed in "stable" condition at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island.

About 3:00 a.m. two men were shot in the 5100 block of West Monroe Street. A man in his 20s was shot in the chest and buttocks and was transported to Loretto Hospital in critical condition. A man in his 30s was shot in his thigh and taken to Loretto Hospital in fair condition, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
