CPD Motorcycle Garage Dedicated To Fallen Cop

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The garage where Chicago police officers park their motorcycles is now called "Mike's Garage," in memory of fallen Officer Michael Flisk, who was killed as he investigated a vehicle burglary last November in the 8100 block of South Burnham Avenue.

Traffic Division Sgt. James Glynn dedicated the garage at 17th and State streets to Officer Michael Flisk as about 100 officers applauded on Friday.

Among them was Police Supt. Garry McCarthy, who said he never met Flisk, but he spoke with Flisk's wife, Nora, and their two children and McCarthy said he was amazed at their strength.

"The families are stronger than we are and I always wonder why that is and how that can possibly be," he said. "But, Nora, you should be very proud of your family, your children and your life with Michael."

Nora Flisk held hands with her daughter and son, as they wiped away tears, thinking of the man who was always joking.

Traffic Division Officer Alan Mercado said he will always remember Officer Flisk for his great sense of humor.

"He was a great person, very happy, always joking around," Mercado said.

There is a memorial bike ride for Flisk this weekend.
