Sugar Grove Gets Its First McDonald's

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- It's something most people take for granted, but the Kane County town of Sugar Grove on Wednesday has its first Golden Arches.

Sugar Grove has never had a fast-food restaurant, but a 10-year population boom has finally changed that with the grand opening of a McDonald's.

"We're very excited to have McDonald's open. We've been waiting for 10 years for this day and it's finally coming, so it's good for us and for McDonald's, and for everyone else around," said Sugar Grove village president Sean Michels.

But why has it taken so long for McDonald's to come to Sugar Grove. The fast food giant is in China, Russia, Poland and virtually everywhere.

"We've been asking that question for 10 years," Michels said.

The opening of the McDonald's is considered progress in Sugar Grove, population about 10,000. It is also the village's first drive-through.

Sugar Grove does not have a main street with a quaint diner that's going to suffer. Most of the businesses are located in shopping centers along Route 47, where the McDonald's is also located.
