Despite the huge funding cut, officials say the center in Grayslake will stay open, but may try to raise the rent on schools holding classes there.

The Daily Herald said the state board lobbied lawmakers hard to maintain funding for the center, but given the state's budget problems, state legislators may not be likely to spend more.

The school had 1,890 students for the 2009-2010 school year, the Daily Herald reported.
