Man Seriously Wounded In Brighton Park Shooting

Updated 08/25/11 - 5:17 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was seriously wounded Tuesday morning when he was shot in the chest in the Brighton Park neighborhood.

Police said someone shot the man in the chest at about 10:20 a.m. in the 3100 block of West 38th Place.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

A Deering District police lieutenant said two men were having an argument when someone came out of an alley and fired shots, hitting the man in the chest. The lieutenant said it was unclear from a preliminary report whether the shooter was the same man who'd been arguing with the man shot.

A witness then saw the shooter get into a white minivan and drive away. An hour or two later officers in the neighboring Ogden District recovered an abandoned white minivan near 30th Street and Spaulding Avenue and found it matched the description in the Brighton Park shooting. The van had a broken window and a broken steering column, indicating it had been stolen.

No one is in custody and Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
