He didn't do the full triathalon, just the sprint version. which is basically a half-triathlon.

That being said, it was still a half mile swim, 12 mile bike ride and 3 mile run. In fact, Mayor Emanuel, 51, finished ninth out of 80 participants in the 50 to 54 age class. He admits it wasn't easy.

"It was very exciting to do. Thank God my son ran with me on the last leg since I haven't run for four weeks. It would have been nicer with flatter water," Emanuel said. "But all that said, it was great to do. It was great to finish. It was a great way to push off your middle-life crisis."

Emanuel finished in 1 hour 36 minutes, and has no mid-life crisis in sight.

Organizers said about 10,000 people had been expected to participate in the triathlon. Early Sunday morning, the National Weather Service had issued choppy water warnings for boaters and swimmers, but no injuries were reported during the triathlon.
