CHICAGO (CBS) — An 18-year-old boy is dead after being shot in the shoulder in the North Lawndale neighborhood overnight.

The victim was standing outside with others in the 1300 block of South Kildare Avenue around 9:50 p.m. Monday, when someone approached on foot and fired shots, hitting him in the shoulder, police said.

The young man, identified as Sadarius Sims of the 5900 block of South Indiana Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. He was pronounced dead there at 10:23 p.m. Monday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Harrison Area detectives have launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. No one was in custody as of Tuesday morning.
