NIU Gives 'All Clear' After Bomb Threat

Updated 10/31/11 - 2:25 p.m.

DEKALB, Ill. (CBS) -- Police at Northern Illinois University have issued an "all clear" after responding to a bomb threat at a campus building.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., NIU police received a bomb threat through its dispatch center and Barsema Hall, which houses the university's business school, was evacuated, according to an alert on the university's website. People were warned to stay away from the building while police investigated the threat and searched the building.

Around 2 p.m., police issued an "all clear" after searching the building, which has reopened.

Classes were set to resume at Barsema Hall at 3 p.m., but school officials said faculty have the option of canceling classes "for compelling reasons." Staff must notify students before canceling any upcoming classes.

Students with questions about class schedules should call the NIU College of Business at 815-753-5000.
