Metra Train Delayed After Hitting Car In Libertyville

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- A Metra train was delayed for half an hour Tuesday morning after slamming into an empty car in Libertyville.

As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, Milwaukee District-North Line train No. 2104 hit the car around 5:40 a.m. at Butterfield Road just south of Illinois Route 137.

No one was in the car at the time of the crash, but the car was wrecked.

No one on the train was injured, officials said.

The train had been scheduled to arrive at Union Station at 6:51 a.m., but was delayed by about half an hour, Habermehl reported.

While the train had been released by 6:15 a.m., the wrecked car remained at the scene, and a tow truck was needed to remove it.
