Man Swipes $100 Bill In 'Quick Change' Scam

SHOREWOOD (CBS) -- Police in Shorewood are investigating a "quick change" scam at a Mobil station.

A man went up to the clerk to buy a candy bar, according to police. When the register was open, he asked if he could get a $100 bill in exchange for smaller bills.

The clerk, according to police chief Aaron Klima, put the $100 bill on the counter and was counting the other bills, when the suspect pulled a fast one on her.

He swapped the hundred for the ten in one motion.

"He said, hey, you only gave me a ten," according to the chief.

He says the clerk got confused. She went to get another $100 bill, but realized she didn't have one. So she gave the man two fifties.

The clerk figured out pretty quickly she'd been had, but the man was gone by then.

Police have released security images of the incident.
