BB Gun Brought To School, Pointed At Student
UPDATED 11/15/11 6:02 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) –- A Chicago mother is furious she was never notified by her son's school about a BB gun incident there this morning.
Jillian McDaniels' son goes to Metcalfe Elementary near 123rd Street and Normal Avenue in the West Pullman neighborhood. She says her son told her two fifth-grade boys pointed a BB gun at him.
The mother says she did not learn about it until her child came home from school.
"They call me for everything else, but they didn't call me and tell me my son was involved with a boy pointing a gun at him. I'm concerned about that," she said.
A spokeswoman for the Chicago Public Schools issued a statement in response.
"School officials took immediate action to notify Chicago police and took other appropriate steps to address the situation," she said.
Some community activists say it's up to parents, not schools, to take responsibility.
McDaniels plans to demand answers from the school on Tuesday.
