Pilot, 69, Dies In Plane Crash Near Elgin

ELGIN, Ill. (CBS) -- A 69-year-old Hampshire man was killed Sunday when the experimental plane he was flying crashed during takeoff from an airport near Elgin.

Frank Kehoe, a northwest suburban resident, died when his single-engine experimental plane crashed near the Olson Airport on Kendall Road in unincorporated Plato Township in Kane County near Elgin on Sunday, according to Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Patrick Gengler.

Kehoe was the only person in the plane at the time of the crash.

Officials said Kehoe was an experienced pilot. It was not known where he was headed when he crashed.

Kehoe was a widower and had no children, a relative told CBS 2.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation as of Sunday afternoon.
