Billick: Bringing In McNabb Would Be 'Brilliant'

(WSCR) Caleb Hanie appears to be the Bears starting quarterback until Jay Cutler returns, but should they look elsewhere?

Shortly after Donovan McNabb was released from the Vikings, Brian Billick joined The Boers and Bernstein Show on Thursday to discuss the possibility of bringing in the veteran QB.

"I think it'd be brilliant for Chicago to pick up Donovan McNabb," Billick said. "Why not give yourself that option? For a team that can play good defense and run the ball, to have a guy that has been under the bright lights, if you get into the playoffs. Maybe Caleb Hanie can continue to do that, but why not at least give yourself that option when you get to the playoffs?

McNabb struggled during his time in Minnesota, ultimately losing his starting spot to rookie Christian Ponder, but Billick thinks that was a systematic problem.

"I think when you look at the teams he has been on the last two years -- let's look at how bad the Washington Redskins are now, by way of example," Billick said. "Minnesota is no better. I don't think you can discount that. I don't think it's that bad. I think there is still something left for Donovan McNabb."
