Man Charged In Fatal North Side Hit-And-Run

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A North Side man was charged Saturday for fleeing the scene of an Albany Park neighborhood crash that killed a 76-year-old woman crossing the street.

A 2006 Dodge Caravan traveling north in the 4500 block of North Kimball Avenue struck a 76-year-old woman crossing the street westbound in the crosswalk about 7:15 a.m., police said.

Wyun Cho, 76, of 439 N. Spaulding Ave., was pronounced dead at 12:23 p.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which will perform an autopsy later Sunday.

The driver, 51-year-old Jose Cornejo-Flores, did not stop, but was later taken into custody, police said. Cornejo-Flores, of the 3600 block of North Francisco Avenue, was charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death.

Cornejo-Flores is expected in Central Bond Court (Br. 1) later Sunday.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
