Lincoln Park Bank Branch Robbed

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man who robbed a bank branch in the Lincoln Park neighborhood Wednesday morning is thought to be the same man who robbed a bank in the same neighborhood a week ago, according to the FBI.

Wednesday's robbery took place just before noon at the Chase Bank branch at 2603 N. Halsted St., according to the FBI.

The man approached a bank employee, implied he had a weapon and announced a robbery, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. He got an undetermined amount of cash and fled south on Halsted Street. No one was injured in the robbery.

The robber was described as a black male about 35 years old, 6 feet and 150-190 pounds, wearing a black leather jacket and white T-shirt.

The description is similar to the suspect who robbed a bank on the 2300 block of North Clark Street last Tuesday. According to the FBI and surveillance photos from the two robberies, the bank robber was the same in both cases.

This was at least the 99th bank robbery in the Chicago area this year, according to FBI records. In 2010 there were 181.
