CHICAGO (CBS) — One man is dead after he was hit by a car in the South Side’s Woodlawn neighborhood.

The 46-year-old man was in the 6300 block of South Stony Island Avenue, across from Jackson Park, when he was hit and killed by a vehicle headed south on Stony Island around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The man, Michael Hawkins of Brown Deer, Wis., was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at 10:14 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle, Ernest Brown, 61, of the 6900 block of South Bennett Avenue, stopped at the scene and was given traffic tickets for driving too fast for conditions and driving without insurance, police said.

No further charges are currently being sought.
