Arkush: 'Stunning' If Bears Hire Ruskell

(WSCR) With Jerry Angelo out, the Bears search for their new general manager is well underway.

The one name that Bears fans didn't want to hear, however, has now been rumored as a candidate for the job.

That name is Bears director of player personnel Tim Ruskell, hired by Angelo.

"That would be stunning," NFL expert Hub Arkush said. "You gotta realize that the only reason he's here is because he's Jerry Angelo's best friend. He just got fired for messing up the Seattle Seahawks so badly. (Bears president Ted Phillips) just fired Jerry -- I just don't know how he would justify that.

"Ted is smart enough to know that would just get him hung out to dry. I can't image that they would do that."

Originally, the Bears reportedly centered their sights on Reggie McKenzie of the Packers and Eric DeCosta of the Ravens, but McKenzie has since been hired by the Raiders, and DeCosta will remain in Baltimore.

"The guys that are off the board, they're two top candidates, but not necessarily the two top candidates," Arkush said. "Certainly, there are other good guys out there. I think it's too early to tell.
