(CBS) Illinois head coach Tim Beckman officially announced the hiring of Tim Banks has his defensive coordinator Wednesday.

Banks was the co-defensive coordinator at Cincinnati the last two seasons after serving in the same role at Central Michigan for three years.

“Tim Banks is a great fit for the University of Illinois,” Beckman said. “He led an outstanding defense at Central Michigan and made a great improvement at Cincinnati this past season. Tim and I worked together at Bowling Green and I consider him one of the brightest young coaches in the nation. Tim will run a very aggressive defensive system that will work very well with our personnel.”

Beckman’s staff assignments are now complete:

Tim Banks – defensive coordinator/safeties
Billy Gonzales – co-offensive coordinator/receivers
Chris Beatty – co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks
Luke Butkus – offensive line
Steve Clinkscale – cornerbacks
Keith Gilmore – defensive line
Alex Golesh – tight ends/specialists/recruiting coordinator
Tim Salem – running backs/special teams coordinator
Mike Ward – linebackers

Prosch transferring

In other news, Illinois announced sophomore fullback Jay Prosch is transferring to Auburn to be closer to his ailing mother.

“Jay Prosch has decided to transfer to Auburn and will be there for the current semester,” Beckman said. “He will have an opportunity to be much closer to his mother, who continues to face health issues. We wish Jay the best as he makes this move.

Prosch’s mother is battling brain cancer and lives in Mobile, Ala.

The transfer is significant for the Illini. Prosch developed into an extremely reliable lead blocker in the running game the last two seasons and led the team in special teams tackles in 2011.
