Man Pledges To Commit A Random Act Of Kindness Every Day This Year

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Doing at least one kind thing every day of the year is easier said than done, but one Chicago man is pledging to do just that in 2012.

As WBBM Newsradio's John Waelti reports, since the birth of his daughter last September, Ryan Garcia has been on a mission to leave her a legacy.

"I just hope that she can see this in the future and try and emulate it," Garcia said.

As a result, Garcia pledged to commit 366 acts of kindness – one per day – and they have been coming in all forms.

"Some of the more light-hearted things I've done is I've complimented 25 people," he said. "I was trying to target maybe people who looked sort of sad or in a bad mood."

Garcia has also written to the family of a fallen soldier and delivered care packages to the homeless.

He has chronicled his efforts in a blog that is getting worldwide attention.

Garcia says the reaction he has received is priceless.

"I've had people calling me and e-mailing me, and reaching out on my Facebook page," he said.

And he thinks the international following is a sign that these 366 acts are ideas whose time has come.

"There are people who are following in 18 different countries," he said. "The feeling and the warmth I've gotten back has just made it great for me."

Garcia's blog is at 366RandomActs.org. He is also on Twitter at @366RandomActs.
