Teen Hit By Truck Near Curie High School On Southwest Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A truck slammed into a teenage pedestrian late Tuesday morning near Curie High School on the city's Southwest Side.

The teenager, a boy, was hit by the semi just after 11 a.m. near Curie Metro High School, 4959 S. Archer Ave., police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and appeared in "very serious" condition, authorities said.

It is not clear whether the victim was a student.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit was sent to investigate, and it was unknown if any citations would be issued, police spokesman, Officer John Mirabelli said.

The truck involved appeared to be a cab with a flatbed hitched to the back, but no trailer or cargo.

The Chicago Transit Authority rerouted the northbound No. 62 Archer buses as the investigation proceeds. Buses will run around the scene via Pulaski, 55th Street, Lawndale Avenue and Archer after the accident.
